The adrenaline has officially kicked in. Production has begun on Extraction 3, the highly anticipated third installment in Netflix’s action-packed series.

This next chapter of cinematic intensity brings back the formidable cast and crew that defined the previous films. Chris Hemsworth steps back into the role of former Australian black ops mercenary Tyler Rake, joined by Idris Elba as the mysterious ‘Alcott’ and Golshifteh Farahani as Tyler’s partner, Nik Khan.

Guiding this massive undertaking is director Sam Hargrave, who has promised to take their biggest swing yet. Hargrave stated that their mission has always been to push the boundaries of action filmmaking, and with Extraction 3, they are aiming for new heights in cinematic spectacle.

The foundation of this epic saga is rooted deeply in visual storytelling, drawing inspiration from the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks and the Russo brothers. These films are defined not just by their explosive action sequences but also by their stunning and diverse global settings.

The previous installments established a pattern of cinematic world-building through location. The first film was set in Dhaka, Bangladesh, though it utilized filming locations across Thailand and India. The second movie immersed audiences in the landscape of Georgia, with principal photography taking place around the Czech Republic and Austria.

For this new entry, the scope is even broader. Filming for Extraction 3 is unfolding across an incredible range of locales, including Sydney, Australia, the NSW South Coast, and various parts of Europe. This expansive shooting schedule suggests a truly global production.

While plot specifics remain under wraps, the logistical challenge of bringing this vision to life is already proving monumental. The entire shooting operation is expected to run through until early October.

The creative team behind the project also touches on economic impact. Screenplay writer David Weil is anticipated to inject significant financial momentum into the NSW economy, with projections reaching around $127 million.

With a projected release date in 2027 on Netflix, Extraction 3 is poised to be more than just an action film; it is set to be a landmark event in global filmmaking, blending breathtaking action with extraordinary geographical scope.
