Gadot calls out DC over Wonder Woman 3 and Cavill

Once the cinematic universe of the DCEU began to sputter and stall, the inevitable question arose: which heroes deserved a place in the relaunch of the DCU? As the studio navigated this ambitious new landscape, the focus shifted to the characters who could genuinely anchor the future.

One name that carried particular weight was Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot, who embodied the character, was positioned as a central figure in these discussions. She had reportedly met with James Gunn and Peter Safran, who suggested they would develop a future for Wonder Woman 3 with her. However, the reality of the situation painted a different picture for many involved.

Gadot recently shared her perspective on the process, noting that while there were promises, the execution felt uneven. In an interview, she reflected on the handling of the transition, emphasizing that the experience of other actors, such as Henry Cavill’s role as Superman, did not feel as elegantly managed.

When pressed about the fate of the franchise, Gadot countered that the vision was about moving forward, suggesting that as adults, the focus should be on doing what they believe in. She expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to portray Wonder Woman, acknowledging that the character holds immense meaning for many, and wishing for its future to be approached with pure love and light.

Despite the complexities surrounding Wonder Woman’s future, DC Studios is actively moving forward. They are currently developing a new Wonder Woman movie, spearheaded by Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira, signaling a definite commitment to continuing the legacy.

The conversation extended beyond the core Trinity. While some characters’ journeys were being redefined, other actors have successfully reprised their roles within the new structure. Viola Davis continues as Amanda Waller, and John Cena has stepped into the role of Peacemaker. Furthermore, Xolo Maridueña is set to return as Blue Beetle in the forthcoming Man of Tomorrow.

Ultimately, observers suggest that while the current direction is unfolding, a clean break would have offered a less fraught path. A completely new universe, free from the lingering complexities of the previous cinematic era, might have allowed for a simpler, more impactful storytelling experience for fans moving forward.
