The casting process involved a high-stakes session in London, where she worked alongside director George Miller and the actor she was secretly vying for: Tom Hiddleston.
Gadot described the intensity of the experience. She recounted arriving in London on a cold winter day, dressing in multiple layers, and spending four intensive hours in an office environment. It was a deep dive into the world of high-octane filmmaking, and the atmosphere was palpable.
Despite the rigorous demands of the session, Gadot felt a strong sense of confidence about her performance. She praised Hiddleston’s talent, noting that he possessed the magnetism of a true theater actor, which made the experience even more rewarding.
However, the fate of the role ultimately went to Charlize Theron, who delivered a phenomenal performance opposite Tom Hardy. While Gadot acknowledged that George Miller clearly had a vision for the character, the casting outcome remains a testament to the incredible talent pool available.
This moment highlights the competitive nature of blockbuster casting. While Gadot’s journey didn’t lead to the final role on the set of Fury Road, it remains a memorable chapter in her career. Currently, Gadot is channeling her energy into new projects. She is starring in The Runner, a film directed by Kevin Macdonald for Amazon MGM Studios, which is set to release on Prime Video in September 2026.
In her current role, she plays Maia, a resilient single mother and lawyer, navigating complex emotional and physical demands. Though she enjoys the spotlight, Gadot admitted that she struggles with the physical reality of running, despite the physical demands of her film. It seems that while she can portray characters who run across the map, she might prefer to watch the action unfold from the sidelines.
