Gal Gadot Embraces the Next Chapter, Letting Go of the Wonder Woman Legacy

Ten years after stepping into the iconic boots of Wonder Woman, actress Gal Gadot appears to be gracefully moving onto her next cinematic adventure. While promoting her latest thriller, The Runner, she opened up about the enduring mythology of her most celebrated role and the tantalizing possibility of a return to the DC universe.

When asked about the prospect of reprising her role as Diana of Themyscira in James Gunn’s current DCU, Gadot admitted that she hasn’t had any specific conversations regarding either taking on the role again or pursuing a new one, unlike some of her former co-stars. She noted that the only knowledge she had was that the studio had once expressed a strong desire to develop a third film featuring the character.

Despite the lingering allure of the legend, Gadot’s focus remains firmly on the present, offering a thoughtful message of support rather than pressing for a specific role. She emphasized the character’s profound importance to many fans, regardless of who portrays her.

“This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it’s going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character. And I’m just grateful that I was granted the opportunity to wear her boots and celebrate this incredible character and everything she stands for.”

Gadot’s journey with Wonder Woman began in 2016 with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, leading to her solo film in 2017, which remains a landmark achievement for the DCEU. Her involvement has spanned several major projects, including her appearances in Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984, alongside roles in films like Shazam: Fury of the Gods and The Flash. Most recently, she recently showcased her versatility by starring in the film Bitcoin.

While the path for Wonder Woman remains open, industry buzz suggests other actresses are eyeing the mantle. Rumors circulating hint that Adria Arjona might be stepping into the role in next year’s Gunn-directed Man of Tomorrow, though this remains unconfirmed. Regardless of which actress ultimately takes the helm, Gadot’s sentiment is clear: the legacy endures, and the enjoyment of the character is what truly matters.
