Hansen demands Ice Age star not Pattinson for role

When it comes to casting a star, everyone wants to know who the actor actually wants to play the role. For Chris Hansen, the former host of To Catch a Predator, the answer for A24’s Primetime was anything but the expected choice. In a candid conversation, Hansen revealed his surprising casting preference, suggesting that the consensus among Hollywood simply wasn’t his personal vision.

Hansen made it clear that while Robert Pattinson was a popular choice, he was not the actor he envisioned stepping into the role. When asked about his casting process, the 66-year-old shared that he had long ago envisioned a different performer on screen. He recalled crafting scenarios years ago, even considering someone like Denis Leary as a potential fit for the character, believing Leary possessed the necessary gravitas.

This preference sparked a deeper look into the motivations behind the film. Hansen questioned the commercial landscape of Hollywood, suggesting a suspicion that the filmmakers sought to capitalize on his name rather than casting based on authentic artistic vision. He posited that the decision seemed driven more by a desire for a successful commercial endeavor than by genuine creative alignment.

The situation took an interesting turn when the film’s creators reached out to Hansen’s team months before the interview to participate in the project. Despite this outreach, the former host did not serve in any capacity during the filming process, highlighting the distance between celebrity association and actual involvement.

The resulting cast of Primetime is already a star-studded ensemble, featuring Robert Pattinson alongside Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Phoebe Bridgers, Anna Faris, and Creed Bratton. Director Lance Oppenheim’s film is set to arrive in theaters on September 25, 2026.
