The Road to the Restaurant Empire: Hooters Gets a Movie Treatment

A cinematic journey is brewing behind the scenes of the iconic chicken-wing restaurant chain, as the original founding partners are set to bring their story to the big screen in a feature film tentatively titled Hooters: The Movie. This isn’t just a movie; it’s an exploration of friendship, fateful road trips, and the unexpected rise of a national empire built on a single, memorable moment.

The project is helmed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Jon Rosenbaum, known for his knack for charming, character-driven narratives, who will direct the feature. The screenplay itself is the brainchild of a talented trio: Ed Droste, Phil Olson, and Chuck Melcher, who have crafted a narrative that promises to capture the essence of the Hooters story with humor and heart.

The film delves into the origins of the chain, focusing on two lifelong friends, Ted and Lenny, hailing from a small Iowa town. Their story blossoms when Ted becomes captivated by Diane, a woman he first spots from afar in a spring break commercial. Determined to find her, Ted convinces Lenny to embark on an impromptu road trip to Clearwater Beach in Florida. This seemingly simple adventure would inadvertently lead to the accidental creation of what would eventually become a national restaurant empire.

The narrative tracks how this journey led to a pivotal relationship, as Diane eventually became the very first Hooters Girl. However, their success is not without its dramatic twists, as the friends and their enterprise soon find themselves navigating unexpected challenges from the federal government.

Casting is officially underway for the film, with Lisa London and Catherine Stroud stepping into the roles of the central characters. Filming is slated to begin in November, with the action unfolding in the beautiful Tampa/Clearwater area. Fans can anticipate a captivating cinematic look at the journey that transformed a simple friendship into an iconic brand.
