The wait is officially over. Fans of the iconic detectives of Law & Order: SVU can breathe a collective sigh of relief after Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni confirmed a long-anticipated reunion on the small screen.
The news dropped via Instagram, where Hargitay shared a photo pointing toward Meloni on set with the caption, “Who dat?”. This was quickly followed by a smiling selfie, celebrating the show’s upcoming milestone with the caption, “Happy 600..”, nodding to the series’ upcoming 600th episode.
These posts signaled that Christopher Meloni will be returning to the role of Elliot Stabler for Season 28. For years, fans have dreamt of seeing the legendary duo back on screen, and these social media hints offered the tangible proof that the reunion was happening.
Meloni’s return follows his departure from the spin-off, Law & Order: Organized Crime, in April. When he stepped away, Meloni took the opportunity to thank the audience, reflecting on his time on the show and the support that helped define Stabler’s longevity.
The chemistry between Hargitay and Meloni is rooted in shared history; they first originated their iconic roles as Benson and Stabler in 1999.
