Matthew Needham as the Joker in Caped Crusader

Matthew Needham is bringing a chilling new dimension to the DC animated universe, stepping into the role of The Joker in the second season of Amazon Prime’s Batman: Caped Crusader.

Known for his intense performance as Larys Strong in HBO’s House of the Dragon, Needham is lending his distinctive voice to the Clown Prince of Crime, injecting a uniquely cold and stoic sinister quality into the iconic villain. This iteration of the Joker is reportedly heavily influenced by German expressionism and classic Conrad Veidt silent films, giving the character an unnerving, stark presence.

The casting for this major role was unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con, where Needham joined other stars like Hamish Linklater (who voices Bruce Wayne/Batman) and Jamie Chung (Harley Quinn) on the panel. The creative vision behind the series was solidified by executive producers including J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm.

The excitement surrounding the second season began immediately with the premiere episode being screened ahead of the show’s return to screens. This initial viewing also introduced a roster of other memorable villains, including The Riddler, Scarecrow, Roxy Rocket, and The Mad Hatter, alongside supporting characters like The Penguin, Two-Face, Catwoman, and Clayface.
