Mutiny flops again Statham’s 2026 box office failure
Even with a superstar lead, not every blockbuster lands perfectly. Jason Statham’s latest action thriller, Mutiny, is navigating a choppy waters at the box office, showing signs of a struggle that has left fans and industry watchers alike questioning its performance.
The film’s momentum suffered considerably during its second weekend. Domestic earnings plummeted, bringing in an estimated $2.75 million between August 28 and 30. This figure represented a significant 64.3% drop compared to its opening weekend, signaling a challenging run for the movie in the theatrical space.
While the film had managed a respectable start, opening with $7.71 million across 2,703 theaters, the subsequent weekend results highlighted some serious obstacles. By the end of the second weekend, the film had reached a total domestic haul of $13.23 million, yet the overall picture remained one of modest theatrical success.
The worldwide total reached $19.83 million, but when stacked against the reported production budget of $40 million, the film has earned less than half of its required amount globally.
Compounding the financial challenges was an unexpected complication. Mutiny’s theatrical performance was further complicated by an accidental streaming leak. The film was briefly available on Prime Video before Amazon identified and removed the content. This early availability unfortunately opened the door for piracy, which further impacted the film’s performance in international markets.
In the realm of critical reception, the response has been somewhat divided. While the audience has shown strong support, with an 86% score from viewers, the critics have offered a more tempered view. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently holds a 49% score based on 122 reviews.
This performance follows a tough stretch for Statham at the box office. Mutiny is his second underperformer of 2026, following the massive success of Shelter, which garnered over $54 million worldwide, including substantial revenue from international territories.
