Raquel Lee and Mark Curry settled before suing Disney
The complex history of childhood fame and legal action continues to unfold for former child actress Raquel Lee Bolleau, who is currently pursuing a civil lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company.
This ongoing litigation is framed by earlier, private arrangements, highlighting the often-tense dynamics within the entertainment industry. Years before filing her current claim, Lee reportedly reached a confidential settlement with Mark Curry, who portrayed her father in the 2001 Disney Channel movie, The Poof Point.
The details of the 2015 resolution remain private, though representatives for accusers indicated that Gloria Allred, who represented Lee during the settlement, was involved in the process.
The current lawsuit against Disney makes serious allegations concerning the environment surrounding filming. It claims that an unidentified “middle-aged male Disney employee” repeatedly sexually abused and assaulted Lee during the production of the movie.
The complaint further specifies the nature of the harassment, alleging that the perpetrator regularly made sexually explicit jokes and commentary around minors on set. The suit also details physical assault, noting that the perpetrator assaulted her on several occasions in a hotel room where the cast and crew were staying.
Furthermore, the complaint alleges a systemic failure by Disney, stating that the harassment occurred in plain view of co-workers, and that the company failed to intervene. Adding to the claims of neglect, the suit asserts that Lee’s assigned on-set guardian was routinely separated from her, leaving her unsupervised during filming.
The context of these claims is further illuminated by Lee’s previous public reflections. In a 2024 docuseries, she spoke candidly about her experiences as a young Black performer on Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show in 1999.
While Lee did not detail the allegations related to The Poof Point in that series, other stories from the industry have provided context on the systemic issues. Co-star Drake Bell, in related discussions, revealed his own experience of sexual abuse while on set, further underscoring the difficult realities faced by performers.
Lee continues to pursue this matter with the assistance of legal counsel, including Doug Wigdor, an employment and sexual-misconduct specialist. Despite the serious nature of the claims and the history of a prior settlement, neither Lee nor Disney representatives have issued public comments regarding the confidential resolution or the ongoing legal proceedings.
