The world of found-footage horror is about to get a major expansion, as the venerable V/H/S franchise is set to bring the sprawling mythology of the SCP Foundation to the big screen in a feature-length film, V/H/S: SCP>. This ambitious project is slated for a 2027 theatrical release, backed by a powerful new creative alliance involving A24.

A24 has partnered with Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios to handle the cinematic translation of this internet-born horror phenomenon. This strategic move signals a major shift, positioning the SCP Foundation—one of the most influential collaborative horror and science fiction mythologies originating from the internet—as a mainstream cinematic event.

The SCP Foundation itself is a universe built by thousands of contributors since 2008. It centers on a secretive organization dedicated to containing and studying supernatural anomalies, presented primarily through classified documents and recovered evidence. This format aligns perfectly with the signature found-footage style that has defined the V/H/S franchise for over a decade, making the SCP universe a natural fit for a cinematic adaptation.

Why A24? The studio’s history of successfully elevating internet-born phenomena into major theatrical successes makes them the ideal partner. Their previous work, such as the box-office hit Backrooms, demonstrated an ability to capture and amplify compelling online lore. This experience suggests A24 is perfectly positioned to nurture and expand the SCP universe into a must-see cinematic experience.

The creative engine behind the film is a collaborative effort, with A24 co-producing alongside Roy Lee and Steven Schneider for Spooky Pictures, alongside Josh Goldbloom and Michael Schreiber, who have deep ties to the V/H/S world.

While the anticipation builds for V/H/S: SCP, fans won’t have to wait until 2027 for more scares. Shudder has already announced V/H/S/MIXTAPE, an anthology film set for release on October 9, 2026. This mixtape will feature segments from directors like Ernest Dickerson, RZA, David Moreau, and Renee Zhan, including original creature work from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, and musical interludes featuring artists such as Flying Lotus and Tobias Forge. It promises to crank up the found-footage horror by blending cosmic dread, psychological suspense, and the power of sound and music into an unforgettable collection of nightmares.

V/H/S: SCP marks a significant evolution for the franchise, taking the beloved, chaotic spirit of internet horror and transplanting it into a major cinematic landscape. It promises to be a spine-chilling journey that bridges the vastness of the SCP mythology with the established world of V/H/S.
