This feature follows the journey of Holmes, the biotech entrepreneur who founded the infamous health technology company, Theranos. Holmes claimed to have revolutionized clinical pathology by devising blood tests requiring just a few drops—essentially a finger prick performed rapidly using small, automated devices. It was a vision of diagnostic medicine that promised to change healthcare forever.
But the trajectory of this self-made multi-billionaire took a sharp, brutal turn. Overnight, the promise of her technology evaporated when it was revealed that the proprietary methods did not work and produced profoundly flawed results. The fallout was catastrophic, leading to a conviction for wire fraud and conspiracy, and an 11-year sentence in a United States federal prison.
The documentary crew was granted the unique opportunity to document Holmes for nearly five weeks before she began serving her sentence, capturing an intimate, yet mind-bending portrait of an enigmatic felon.
