The focus is now on The Drifter, a game that promises a gritty, pulp adventure ripe for the big screen. This adaptation brings a unique, award-winning indie title to the cinema, blending intense action with deep, shadowy conspiracies.
The source material draws from Powerhoof, an independent Australian studio founded by Dave Lloyd and Barney Cumming, known for creating titles like Crawl and Regular Human Basketball. The story of The Drifter centers on a wandering man caught in a deadly conspiracy. After witnessing a brutal murder, he is drowned by high-tech soldiers, forcing him to fight for survival as he uncovers a terrifying plot involving shadowy corporations and a dangerous personal obsession.
The game itself has already earned significant recognition within the industry. <The Drifter> won Game of the Year at the 2025 Australian Game Developer Awards, along with accolades for its visual art, narrative, and sound design, underscoring its quality as a compelling piece of interactive storytelling.
The game offered players a modern take on the classic 2D point-and-click adventure format, launching on PC in July 2025 and later releasing on Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 in June 2026.
