A multiverse mess, familiar faces, and a dash of superhero shenanigans have propelled HBO Max’s latest comedy, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, to the top of streaming charts. This spin-off of the beloved sitcom successfully blended high-concept sci-fi comedy with unexpected, high-octane action, delighting audiences with its increasingly wild narrative.
The chaos began when Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner played by Kevin Sussman, accidentally kicked off a multiverse disaster by messing with a device built by his friends, Sheldon and Leonard. Suddenly, Stuart and his companions—Denise, Bert Kibbler, and Barry Kripke—were flung into a frantic race across alternate realities. The first season followed this group as they scrambled desperately to undo the damage before the entire multiverse went completely off the rails.
The series was anchored by a stellar cast, featuring Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie, who brought dynamic energy to the trio as they navigated their chaotic adventures.

While the plan had initially aimed for a Green Lantern crossover, HBO opted for the electrifying presence of The Flash instead, leading to a truly unique blend of genres.
The show has proven its staying power, currently ranking at No. 2 among HBO Max’s top 10 TV shows in the United States. Despite the wild premise, audience reaction has been solid, with critics and viewers praising the show’s unusual sci-fi comedy and its successful mash-up of returning characters and genres. While some found the humor polarizing, the overall critical reception remains strong.
With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 77% and a Popcornmeter score of 80%, the series has earned widespread acclaim. HBO Max has already demonstrated its confidence in the material by renewing the series for a second season, promising even more adventures in the sprawling landscape of the multiverse.
