The enduring legacy of the Tomb Raider franchise is being reimagined, and the plans for the future suggest that the adventure is far from over. Polish game developer Flying Wild Hog, known for creating classics like Trek to Yomi and Shadow Warrior, is stepping up to tackle the iconic series with massive ambition.

Their current focus is on a full-scale remake of the original 1996 title, titled Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. This project is being developed in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics and is set to arrive in February. It’s not just a simple graphical update; the team is breathing fresh life into the classic, rebuilding the game using the power of Unreal Engine 5 to deliver stunning new visuals, revamped skill trees, and an expanded, deeper story set in Atlantis.

But the vision extends far beyond the original. Long-running gaming outlets have begun buzzing with excitement, suggesting that Flying Wild Hog is not content just revisiting the past. Rumors indicate that developers are already mapping out potential remakes for the earlier entries, including Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III.

This flurry of activity suggests a commitment to honoring the entire lineage of the franchise. While the immediate focus remains on the spectacular Legacy of Atlantis remake, the appetite for revisiting the golden age of Tomb Raider is clear. Whether these sequels will materialize depends, of course, on the success of the initial remake, but the ambition remains palpable.

This ambitious slate of projects runs parallel to the development of newer entries, such as Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which is slated for 2028. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of Lara Croft and the developer’s determination to craft new, compelling adventures for a new generation.
