From Digital Dread to Cinematic Horror: Indie Game Franchise Finds New Life on Screen

The chilling atmosphere of the “Tormented Souls” indie video game franchise is officially stepping out of the digital realm and into the world of film and television. A powerful consortium—including ZQ Entertainment, Prime Universe Films, and Longevity Pictures—has secured the rights to bring this deeply unsettling narrative to a wider audience.

At the heart of the saga is a descent into madness within the decaying halls of the abandoned Wildberger Hospital. Players previously experienced this harrowing journey as Caroline Walker navigates a nightmare filled with grotesque experiments, supernatural forces, and terrifying secrets that haunt every corner of the facility.

The origins of the property trace back to developer Dual Effect and publisher PQube Games, which first released the game on Steam before expanding its reach across major platforms like PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. It was a title that successfully blended intense gameplay with genuine psychological dread.

Now, the focus shifts from the digital experience to the cinematic one. The production is backed by significant investment, with ZQ Entertainment financing the development and co-financing the production itself. Guiding this ambitious project are a talented group of producers, including Adrian Askarieh, Ara Keshishian, Majd Nassif, Petr Jakl, Gabriel Araneda Quijada, and Germán Araneda Quijada.

The team involved is clearly dedicated to preserving the franchise’s core emotional and terrifying impact while elevating it for a cinematic experience. As Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl noted, their aim is clear: “The game creates genuine dread while telling a compelling emotional story. Our goal is to honor everything fans love while delivering a terrifying cinematic experience worthy of the franchise.”

While the exact order of events for the film or television series remains under development, the plans for the “Tormented Souls” property are serious and multi-faceted. This move signals a major opportunity to translate the immersive world of the game into a high-stakes visual medium.
