Venom game action is still coming
The pursuit of the symbiote saga continues, as reports suggest that Insomniac Games is still actively developing their standalone title, Venom, set within the Marvel universe.
This latest update provides a welcome breath of fresh air following years of speculation about the project’s fate. The news surfaced from longtime game scoopers who confirm that the development of the character-focused game is very much still underway.
The idea of a solo game featuring Venom wasn’t a recent thought. It was first introduced in 2023 when Insomniac revealed an internal roadmap, positioning Venom to arrive before the next installment of the main series, Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.
However, the road to development hit a sudden detour in 2024. The passing of actor Tony Todd, who famously voiced the symbiote in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, sparked rumors that the project might be shelved entirely. While Todd had previously indicated that they used only a small portion of his recorded work, the idea of a standalone game faced serious challenges.
Some industry voices suggested that the project had reached an end, leading to murmurs that the standalone experience was dead. Yet, other experts quickly countered this notion, insisting that the potential for the project remained strong.
The narrative context of the game also adds another layer of intrigue. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the symbiote allegiance rested with Harry Osborn, who became Venom. Now, the rumored standalone game is reportedly shifting the focus, suggesting a narrative pivot toward introducing the traditional host, Eddie Brock, allowing players to experience the dynamic of the symbiote from a new perspective.
