The deep blue holds a deadly secret, and the ultimate survival test is about to begin. 20th Century Studios has unveiled the latest glimpse into Whalefall, a unique concept survival thriller that plunges viewers into a terrifying, intimate confrontation with nature.

The story centers on Jay Gardiner, played by Austin Abrams, a diver driven by grief. Following the tragic death of his father, Jay ventures off the central coast of California in a desperate search for his lost remains. What he finds instead is an encounter far more perilous and unforgettable: being unexpectedly swallowed alive by a massive sperm whale.

Trapped within the creature’s belly, with only one hour of oxygen remaining, Jay faces a terrifying dilemma. His fate now rests not just on his physical endurance, but on the hard-earned, perhaps instinctual, lessons his father imparted—knowledge that may be the only key to escape the crushing darkness.

The recently released third trailer offers increasingly intense scenes of the diver inside the beast, amplifying the claustrophobic tension and promising a visceral journey into the jaws of the ocean.

This ambitious project is anchored by a talented ensemble cast, featuring Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd, lending gravitas and emotional depth to the survival scenario. The narrative itself is drawn from the novel by Daniel Kraus.

Guiding this high-stakes adventure is director Brian Duffield, a filmmaker known for crafting compelling underwater and monster narratives, including his previous work on Love and Monsters and Underwater.

Whalefall arrives in cinemas on October 16th, promising to be a chilling and unforgettable addition to the horror thriller landscape. It marks the second major horror thriller slated for the Fall season to feature Austin Abrams, following the upcoming release of Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil.
