Zach Cregger refuses to write or direct Gladys
Filmmaker Zach Cregger has just shed some light on his creative roadmap, confirming that he will not be taking the reins as director or writer for the upcoming prequel, Gladys.
This development comes amidst a flurry of activity, as Cregger navigates the post-success landscape following his massive hit Weapons, which grossed $268 million worldwide on a modest $38 million budget.
For a period, there was some mild speculation about Cregger’s next cinematic venture, especially after the completion of his Resident Evil franchise. Some wondered whether he would dive into the prequel material for his own universe, or perhaps pursue his long-standing passion project, the sci-fi film The Flood, currently in development with producer Steven Spielberg.
The creative path has been winding. Cregger had previously been linked to co-writing the script for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire alongside Zach Shields, but he ultimately stepped away from directing the Gladys project.
Now, Cregger has clarified his role in the upcoming prequel. He indicated that his involvement in Gladys will likely be in a producing capacity, with the actual story being handled by co-writer Zach Shields, who developed the narrative with Cregger.
With the focus shifted, Cregger is now gearing up for a massive new undertaking: shooting The Flood, slated to begin early next year. This new project promises an interstellar adventure, reportedly following a deep-space exploration team that encounters a strange signal from a remote planet and uncovers a bizarre alien artifact that begins to warp reality.
The Flood is scheduled for release in cinemas on August 11th, 2028, with the Gladys prequel set to follow just a few weeks later on September 8th, 2028, offering audiences a fascinating duality of epic storytelling.
