The selection process for the prize was a global affair, drawing input from 591 critics spanning 69 different countries. This massive participation underscores the broad international recognition afforded to the film and its masterful storytelling.
This recognition marks a significant milestone for Anderson, as it is the fourth time a film he has directed to achieve this distinction. This streak of critical acclaim highlights Anderson’s unique ability to craft narratives that resonate deeply and provoke thoughtful discussion among the film world. Earlier victories include his acclaimed works Magnolia (1999), There Will Be Blood (2007), and Phantom Thread (2018).
The FIPRESCI is marking a special occasion this year, as it celebrated its centenary in 2025, further emphasizing its role as a foundational pillar in the global appreciation of cinema.
The celebration of this achievement will come to the forefront during the opening gala of the San Sebastián Festival’s 74th edition on September 18th. The winning film will be showcased on the same day, offering a platform for the audience to experience the cinematic achievement in a grand setting.
