The cinematic world is buzzing with fresh promotional material following Warner Bros. Pictures’ unusual effort to promote Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s new film, Digger, starring Tom Cruise.
The campaign features several new posters and a teaser clip, designed to bring the epic scope of Digger to the forefront. This promotion arrives alongside another glimpse into Inarritu’s celebrated work, including footage from Birdman and The Revenant.
A recent 20-second clip serves as a tantalizing preview, pulled from a three-minute Tom Cruise Retrospective. This retrospective spanned nearly every film in his extensive biography, featuring highlights from projects across rival studios, including Top Gun, Interview with the Vampire, Magnolia, and many more.
The retrospective seamlessly weaves through Cruise’s career, offering a glimpse into the breadth of his cinematic journey. But the focus inevitably shifts to the upcoming film, where Tom Cruise portrays a powerful figure attempting to convince the world he is its saviour—a narrative that draws immediate comparisons to the catastrophic fallout seen in Dr. Strangelove.
Digger is visually stunning, shot on 35mm VistaVision and utilizing the lensing of Emmanuel Lubezki. The film is anchored by an incredible ensemble cast, featuring Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, and Jesse Plemons.
The screenplay for Digger was co-written by Inarritu alongside Nicolás Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, marking Inarritu’s first English-language feature film in a decade. The production showcases the power of collaboration, resulting in a deeply layered and dramatic experience.
Mark your calendars: Digger will premiere exclusively in cinemas this October. A proper trailer is set to drop on July 13th, allowing audiences to prepare for this comedy of catastrophic proportions.
