Stop That Train

The Iron Road to Disaster: Behind the Scenes of Stop! That! Train!

For two best friends, the dream of filmmaking collided head-on with the brutal reality of industry collapse. Their venture, built on the backdrop of the railway, suddenly faced an existential crisis when their employer, Stank Rail, ceased trading. This wasn’t just a change in business; it was a devastating blow to a dream that felt like it was finally coming true.

The project involved a locomotive that served only three destinations, one of which tragically succumbed to a mine fire. For the friends Tess (Ginger Minj) and DeeDee (Jujubee), this endeavor was more than just a job—it was the realization of a lifelong aspiration.

While the film itself draws its inspiration from the world of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the narrative takes a sharp turn from glamour to genuine peril. One might have expected a high-speed chase movie, perhaps a cinematic equivalent to Fast & Fabulous. Instead, the resulting story delivers a spectacular disaster movie unfolding on the rails.

The absurdity of the situation is matched only by the tone of the cinematic endeavor. It manages to capture the spirit of comedy while embracing true catastrophe, reminiscent of classic films like Airplane!, where the mode of transport is brilliantly used for comedic effect.

The film itself is aptly titled with three exclamation marks: Stop! That! Train! The visual complexity is reflected in the sheer scale of the journey. The train covers a distance of no less than 2195 and a half miles in just 90 minutes, setting the stage for an inevitable and headlong rush into chaos.
