Crawl 2 release date set for July 2027
Paramount Pictures is gearing up for a splashy sequel, bringing the chilling saga of giant alligators and catastrophic weather to the big screen. The follow-up to Alexandre Aja‘s critically acclaimed 2019 feature, Crawl, is slated for release on July 16th, 2027. This timely arrival positions the new adventure to hit theaters just a week after James Gunn’s anticipated Man of Tomorrow sequel, Superman, hits cinemas, creating a perfect storm of cinematic excitement.
The original Crawl captivated audiences with its high-stakes action and terrifying premise. In the first film, the story followed a father and daughter trapped in a devastating Category 5 hurricane, finding themselves marooned in their Florida home and subsequently trapped in a basement overrun by massive, man-eating alligators. The film proved to be a commercial and critical success, pulling in $91 million worldwide from a relatively modest $14 million budget.
Now, the action expands beyond the Florida coast. The sequel takes the threat to a new, intensely urban landscape, relocating the chaos to New York City. Here, the fury of the hurricane has unleashed a terrifying new reality: gators arise, lurking in the streets and sewers, turning the metropolis into a deadly jungle.
The creative force behind the sequel is a collaborative team, bringing together talent to craft an even more visceral experience. Alexandre Aja, alongside Jason Harry Pagan, Andrew Deutschman, and Gregory Levasseur, contributed to the script, while Craig Flores, Sam Raimi, and Aja are handling the production, ensuring a blend of genre mastery and high-octane execution. Filming for the sequel began recently in Hungary, setting the stage for the cinematic spectacle to come.
In other studio news, Paramount is also busy planning its next big release. The studio has decided to move up the release date for Heart Eyes 2 by a week, setting its new target for February 4th, 2028.
