When you plan your exit, you start with a cut-and-dried strategy. But in the high-stakes world of criminal masterminds and desperate gambles, plans rarely stay simple. When accomplices begin to harbor their own ambitions—fueled by greed or self-interest—the carefully constructed scheme can quickly unravel into deadly chaos.

In the new trailer for Just Play Dead, this theme of inevitable betrayal shines with blinding intensity. A wealthy criminal mastermind, Jack Wolfe (played by Samuel L. Jackson), finds himself cornered by federal agents, presenting a seemingly impossible dilemma: you cannot arrest a dead man. His solution is audacious and utterly ruthless: fake his death and claim a $30 million insurance payout.

The twist, however, is far more complex than simple fraud. To cover his tracks, Jack intends to frame his grieving wife, Nora (Eva Green), on the crime. But fate, or perhaps Nora’s own ambition, throws a wrench into the mechanism. Suffocated by Jack’s iron grip, Nora devises her own deadly plan: she will kill Jack for real, frame her surfer lover, Chad (Jason Fernández), and seize the fortune for herself.

The trailer masterfully highlights the explosive tension between Jackson and Green, showcasing an undeniable on-screen chemistry that suggests a volatile relationship simmering beneath the surface of financial desperation. This is not just a story of murder and insurance fraud; it’s a psychological chess match where every move carries a lethal cost.

The film is helmed by Martin Campbell, known for his taut direction in classics like Cleaner and Casino Royale. The story is brought to life by a talented ensemble cast, including Eoin Macken, María Pedraza, and Jason Fernández, all navigating this intricate game of deception, murder, and high-stakes financial maneuvering.

With $30 million on the line, the film explores the zero-trust environment where trust is a luxury no one can afford. It asks whether survival means outsmarting your accomplices or simply succumbing to their greed.

Just Play Dead will arrive at select theaters on August 28 and will be available on on-demand platforms on September 1.
