Squirrel Girl MCU Show Photos Surface Marvel Meets The Office
The shadow of cancellation often lingers, but sometimes, the most charming projects resurface long after they fade into Hollywood limbo. Recently, a trove of exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and photos from the doomed Squirrel Girl MCU television series has finally surfaced, offering a delightful glimpse into an ambitious project that blended superhero antics with sitcom sensibilities.
This live-action endeavor, which was sometimes dubbed Marvel’s own take on The Office, never saw the light of day until now. It served as a vibrant exploration of what it would be like for a team of young adults with superpowers trying to figure out how to actually become superheroes, all while being followed by a documentary camera crew.
The production, titled New Warriors, featured an ensemble cast that brought some truly unique chemistry to the screen. Among the stars was Milana Vayntrub, who played the title character Doreen Green/Squirrel Girl. Cast member Derek Theler also shared exclusive material, recalling the experience of shooting a comedy about a b-level superhero team tasked with protecting Cleveland, Ohio: The New Warriors.
The hypothetical team included Squirrel Girl, Night Thrasher (played by Jeremy Tardy), Speedball (Calum Worthy), Microbe (Matthew Moy), Debrii (Kate Comer), and Mr. Immortal. Theler humorously described the overall concept as a perfect marriage of two titans of television: Marvel meets The Office.
Despite capturing behind-the-scenes moments, Theler reflected on the production’s journey. He recounted that they shot the pilot, picked up for a season, and genuinely believed they had something special. However, the project ultimately disappeared into Hollywood limbo without a dramatic cancellation or clear explanation. The show simply never came back.
The fate of the series was tied less to creative failure and more to corporate shifts. As streaming giants like Marvel, Hulu, and Disney began converging, shows and talent often got lost in the shuffle. Actress Milana Vayntrub herself later expressed that while the series was a great show—ahead of its time—it was ultimately a collapse of timing and corporate restructuring.
Even with its demise, the legacy remains colorful. The resurfacing material reminds us of the creative spark that existed before the inevitable shuffle of the industry. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most memorable stories are those that existed just out of sync with the current trend, waiting for the right moment to shine.
