Edinburgh’s International Film Festivals is hitting the ground running, marking a vibrant and energetic third year since its revival. The festival has returned with an impressive lineup, showcasing 38 new independent feature films and 21 world premieres that promise to captivate audiences and industry alike.
The recent jamboree in Leith, which also featured a tribute to Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting, was bolstered by a stellar guest list, including major names such as Ewan McGregor, producer Christine Vachon, and Kenneth Branagh.
This successful resurgence follows the previous collapse of its parent body, the Centre for the Moving Image, demonstrating a powerful commitment to independent cinema and new talent. Festival director Paul Ridd and festival producer Emma Boa highlighted the event during the launch in Edinburgh and London, emphasizing the breadth of programming, particularly through an endless plethora of shorts.
With the momentum building, audiences can look forward to the full schedule. The festival is set to officially open on August 13th, kicking off with Louis Paxton’s Scottish island comedy The Incomer, a film starring Gayle Rankin and Grant O’Rourke.
