The narrative follows Xiaowei on a quest to find his “billionaire grandfather,” a search driven by debt and a longing for connection. What he discovers, however, is far more enriching than mere wealth; instead, he uncovers a lifelong saga of love and sacrifice that redefines the meaning of family ties.

This moving narrative draws inspiration directly from overseas Chinese traditions, lending the story a rich cultural depth while maintaining a universally relatable theme of familial devotion. To ensure the authenticity and heartfelt nature of this epic tale, director Lan Hongchun undertook an extensive research process. He traveled to more than 300 Chinese immigrant families across Southeast Asia, Europe, and America, seeking to verify the cultural truths that anchor the story.
