The world of cinema is gearing up for an exciting journey, as the Locarno Film Festival unveils its stunning line-up for its 79th edition. Running from August 5 to 15, the festival promises an experience described by Artistic Director Giona A Nazzaro as “an adventurous selection, full of surprises.”
This year’s program is a dazzling mosaic of international talent, offering audiences a truly surprising and deeply moving collection of films. From the director bringing haunting narratives to the stage, to celebrated filmmakers who are redefining cinematic storytelling across borders, Locarno is poised to be a true celebration of global artistry.
One of the festival’s highlights features the acclaimed South Korean director Hong Sangsoo, known for his introspective and mesmerizing works. He will present Nowhere to Lay My Eyes, inviting audiences into one of his signature cinematic explorations.
Adding further depth to the selection is Singaporean filmmaker Nelson Yeo. Yeo, who has already earned recognition in the Filmmakers of the Present section for his work with Dreaming & Dying, will share his vision by presenting The House On The Moon.
The competition also features a strong presence from Europe and beyond. Canadian director Denis Côté is set to compete in the main section with his compelling film, Nobody’s Violence.
Bringing a distinct European perspective to the festival is Beatrice Gibson, who will be showcasing the British/French co-production At Night. This visually rich film follows six women navigating the darkness in Paris, offering a poignant look at relationships and shadows.
Beyond the main competitive acts, other noteworthy films are also slated to play, including Sixteen Moments Of My Life by Albert Serra, ensuring there is ample opportunity for viewers to discover new cinematic voices. The festival promises not just screenings, but a rich tapestry of unexpected and adventurous storytelling that will captivate audiences in the Piazza Grande.
